BOOKS

Ever since I was little, writing books has been my dream. I started many but finished few. And those few never saw the (publishing) light of day. I usually gave up after around 40 pages and I can barely look at my old work anymore. I might upload something from my teenage years one day, just to give you an idea. Or not.

Then I tried to get a poem collection published for a while. The idea was to combine my writing with pictures from as many different contributors as possible … but that didn’t really work out either. So no books yet. Sorry.

Song adaptations

Translating songs into a different language (in my case either German or English) is quite a challenge. But it is great fun too! Finding the right words and rhymes to make it sound good while still preserving the meaning and feel of the original song – in a way it’s like a puzzle. I like it.

I’ve been interested in this field of work for several years now, and I’ve managed to create a few good translations (or rather adaptations). Here’s a selection:

Adam Lambert – Whataya want from me

Was du willst von mir

Gyllene Tider – Kung av sand

King of sand

Karel Gott & Darinka – Fang das Licht

Catch the light

Mozart! – Dich kennen heißt dich lieben

To know you is to love you [Version 1]

Peter Cornelius – Segel im Wind

Sail in the breeze

Roxette – Listen to your heart

Lausch tief in dein Herz

Westlife – You raise me up

Du gibst mir Kraft [Version 1-3]

Boyzone – When you say nothing at all

Was mir dein Schweigen verspricht

Jem – Come on closer

Jetzt und hier

Mel C – I turn to you

Ich komm zu dir

Mozart! – Dich kennen heißt dich lieben

To know you is to love you [Version 2]

Peter Cornelius – Segel im Wind

Boat on the sea

Roxette – You don't understand me

Kannst du's nicht verstehen

Wham! – Last Christmas

Subtitles

Subtitling is an area that I haven’t really found the time to get into yet. I’ve written the official German subtitles for some of Chris Thompson’s (supricky06) videos on YouTube a couple of years ago. I’ve also written several German subtitles for Shane Dawson’s old clips, but he never put them online. Too bad!

Other than that, there’s nothing much I could mention in this section. I think audio description might be a really fascinating field of work. Would be fun to try that someday.

If you want me to write your subtitles, feel free to contact me.

Poems

Over the last decade or so, I’ve posted countless short poems on Facebook and/or Twitter whenever I felt like writing. Poetry is what got me most of my Facebook fans. It’s more or less become my main creative focus for a couple of years. Here is an extensive collection of my favorite poems. Reading through all of them might take a while.

You're nice, that's all that matters
A little boring, too
The peacock with its feathers
Is not at all like you

It's nice that there's no conflict
Because there is no spark
Of all the hearts this con picked
Yours might not leave a mark

You don't deserve being missed
That's what I'm telling myself
You were destructive and I had reasons to go

If I were making a list
Of what impairs mental health
You'd be an item on it, that much I do know

But then again, if I wrote
A list of what made me whole
It wouldn't be all too long, but you'd be there too

You left a lump in my throat
With your unkind, loving soul
You were a pain in my ass, but I fell for you

These walls are so empty
Despite all my stuff
They're never enough
They probably can't be

I'd fill them with pets
But it's just not the same
They'd add to my blame
And the sea of regrets

Don't lie to me
I've heard it all
Your speech
I mutter in my sleep
A side of me
Hears freedom call
Your reach
No longer goes that deep

I think your heart was in the right place
You just didn't know how to act
Like a decent person
Like a better version
You boasted and lied right to my face
Confused your opinion with fact
That's what you embodied
Even though you'd studied
